He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
China has finally given in to the temptation to contrast the success of Beijing Capital Airport’s vast new Terminal 3 with the debacle that is Heathrow’s Terminal 5. The 1 million-square-meter (10.8 million sq. ft.) terminal at Beijing is larger than London’s new facility, cost less than half as much to build and was built more quickly, notes the China Daily.
U.K. business-class only airline Silverjet said yesterday it will benefit from the demise of its rival Eos. “When customers decided to switch away from American, Continental, BA or Virgin, they were looking at Eos and us. Now it’s only us and that can only benefit the company,” Silverjet CEO Lawrence Hunt said in an interview.
Lufthansa said yesterday it will base six Embraer 195s at Milan Malpensa Airport. The aircraft will be operated by its fully owned Italian subsidiary Air Dolomiti and will be deployed on European routes. The decision comes as Alitalia is reducing its presence at Malpensa. Lufthansa is rumored to be considering basing long-haul aircraft at Malpensa, but recently stated that it currently did not have any such plans.
