He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
British Airways has fired two senior executives who are responsible for the airline’s move to Terminal 5 at London Heathrow Airport. The airline said yesterday that Gareth Kirkwood, director of operations, and David Noyes, director of customer services, are leaving.
Iberia is intensifying its efforts to agree with SAS Group on the takeover of rival Spanair, CEO Fernando Conte told The DAILY at the recent oneworld CEO meeting in Los Angeles. Iberia received confirmation that it should enter Stage 2 negotiations with SAS from UBS, the bank handling the sale on behalf of the Scandinavian airline. “But we haven’t got any feedback yet from SAS,” Conte said. He admitted there would be “regulatory costs and we will evaluate that. If antitrust authorities tell us we should not do it, we don’t do it,” he conceded.
