He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
EasyJet said this week that its full-year earnings could be hurt by rising fuel costs. “It is pretty obvious that if the recent significant rise in the fuel price is maintained, then our second-half profits will be lower than we had previously expected,” CEO Andrew Harrison said without specifying how deep the cuts could be. EasyJet’s most recent full-year guidance called for a 20% increase in pre-tax profits.
British Airways increased its stake in Spanish airline Iberia from 10.14% to 13.15%, the airline said in a regulatory filing yesterday. “This purchase reflects the strategic importance we attach to our relationship with Iberia,” BA CEO Willie Walsh said. “We will consider further opportunities to increase our stake.”
The government of Dubai is launching a low-fare airline that is slated to start flying within one year. The carrier will operate under the roof of state-owned Emirates, according to an order issed by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Makhtoum. Emirates executive VP-commercial, Gaith al-Gaith, has been appointed CEO of the new, yet-unnamed airline.
