He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
MTU Aero Engines CEO Udo Stark said yesterday it was becoming increasingly likely that the Engine Alliance will offer an engine for the Airbus A350. The powerplant could be a modified version of the GP7000 developed for the A380. MTU has received no signals from General Electric that it will develop its own engine for the aircraft after all. GE appears to be concerned that it could end up competing against itself -- as the exclusive engine provider on the Boeing 777-300ER.
Andre Dose left as CEO of Gulf Air less than four months after he started in his new job in early April. Dose was hired following an extensive search to replace James Hogan, who resigned last year to join Etihad Airways as its new CEO. According to industry sources, Dose left after clashes with Chairman Mahmood Kooheji about the ongoing restructuring and what he appears to claim as ongoing interference in daily operations.
The board of Aeroflot yesterday approved the acquisition of 22 Airbus A350s and 22 Boeing 787s to renew the airline's long-haul fleet. Both purchase decisions were subjects of intense negotiations and political maneuvering for months, and the even split shows that the decision has also been influenced by politics. -JF
