He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Low-fare airline Sky Europe plans to raise cash through a capital increase, provided its shareholders approve the move. The carrier plans to sell 20 million new shares. The company plans to use the proceeds to fund its growth and aims at converting options for five more Boeing 737-700s to be delivered in 2008. Last September, Sky Europe placed 12 million shares for sale at EUR6 a piece in its initial public offering. The stock has lost almost half of its value since. -JF

Swiss will integrate two ex-Lufthansa Airbus A330-200s into its long-haul fleet for the next winter timetable, using the aircraft to increase frequencies on existing long-haul routes. One of the aircraft will be used on African routes to Malabo, Douala, Yaounde, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam while the second aircraft will fly from Zurich to New York, Miami, Riyadh/Jeddah and Sao Paulo/Santiago de Chile.
