He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Vienna-based catering specialist DO & CO submitted a binding offer to buy 100% of Airest, the Austrian Airlines Group's catering unit, according to a regulatory filing. Austrian has had long-standing plans to sell the unit, which racked up EUR70 million in sales last year and currently employs about 750 staff. The airline earlier this year took full control of Airest after the remaining shareholders blocked earlier attempts to sell it.
Swiss' traffic was up 3.6% in September, the sixth consecutive growth period following more than three years of decreasing traffic. The airline reduced capacity by 1.8%, and load factor improved by more than four percentage points to 82.2%. Traffic growth was particularly strong in Europe, up 10.5%, while long-haul demand was up 1%. -JF
