Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Finnair and Swiss this week reported robust traffic growth for July, as well as improved load factors. Demand for Finnair flights was up 10.5% on 8.3% more capacity. The airline said its load factor was 78.7%, up 1.6 points over last year.

British Airways canceled all of its flights from London Heathrow yesterday afternoon as a strike by Gate Gourmet and airline staff escalated at the airport. A total of 41 British Airways long-haul flights had to take off without food on Wednesday, and the strike worsened yesterday, eventually forcing the carrier to cancel or divert more than 100 short-haul and long-haul flights. A message on BA's web site said the carrier is evaluating the situation today and advised customers to check before arriving at the airport.
