He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Gulf Air turned a profit in 2004, the first time in years, President and CEO James Hogan told The DAILY. The carrier squeezed out a US$4 million profit on sales of US$1.3 billion, Hogan said during a visit to Frankfurt. He was in Europe to sign a total component services deal with Lufthansa Technik (DAILY, April 7).
Lufthansa Regional will add a total of 11 BAe 146-300 regional jets to its fleet, BAE Systems said yesterday. Air Dolomiti will take five BAe 146-300s on lease from BAE Systems Regional Aircraft, which will be delivered from April to September. The aircraft are the biggest so far operated by Lufthansa's Italian regional, fully owned by Lufthansa. Air Dolomiti previously looked at Boeing 737s.
Lufthansa wants to overtake low-cost carriers on all the things they "do better than we do," Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber told a business forum in Berlin this week, promising that his group will get tougher on costs.
