He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Revenues and profits of Frankfurt's airport operator Fraport AG for the first half of 2004 exceeded analysts' expectations, as the company made a EUR59 million (US$ 73 million) net profit on EUR943 million (US$1.1 billion) in sales, up 17.5% and 7.5%, respectively, over last year. While passenger traffic increased significantly from last year, 13% for the group and 8.2% in Frankfurt only, the weak U.S.-dollar affected the operator's retail business as intercontinental passengers lost 11% in purchasing power.

Air France-KLM grew strongly in the April-June quarter, showing a continuous recovery in European air travel and stable yield development. The newly formed group's revenues were up 12% in the quarter at EUR4.46 billion (US$5.5 billion), compared with last year's period, which was hurt by the Iraq war and the SARS pneumonia outbreak. Air France-KLM did not release earnings figures.
