He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Lufthansa’s planned new longhaul low-cost venture could clear a major hurdle within the next two months, as shareholders of leisure carrier Sun Express are getting closer to a decision on how to proceed with the project. The airline’s next board meeting could take place in mid-October; if Lufthansa wants to stick to its plan to launch the new affiliate by next year, it needs to make quick decisions.

Airbus says the Airbus A350-900 is “ready for certification in the coming weeks” as planned. During the recently completed route-proving campaign, “the aircraft has performed remarkably well confirming the high level of maturity that it has been demonstrating all the way during our development and certification tests,” Fernando Alonso, senior vice president-flight and integration tests, said. “I truly believe the aircraft is fit to enter service.”

LAN Airlines is reaching the initial in-service reliability target of the Boeing 787 two years after it took delivery of its first aircraft. While the airline has seen significant improvements over time, LAN’s Vice President-Line Maintenance Network Sebastian Domenech says that “we are still far from our long term objectives and expectations. We still have a hard road to improvement on which we expect to continue to receive full support from Boeing.”
