He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Lufthansa named new CEOs for its passenger airline and cargo divisions and expanded the role of its most senior human resources executive, defining the group’s top leadership team for the next three years.
Delta Air Lines plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for new longhaul aircraft that will replace all of the airline’s Boeing 747-400s and a significant part of the 767-300ER fleets. The RFP will go out before the end of the month and Delta could decide before the end of the year. Amongst other types, the airline is showing a strong interest in the proposed Airbus A330NEO.
Temporary capacity restrictions at its Dubai hub will force Emirates to park 20 aircraft for 80 days this summer, a move which will curb the airline’s expansion to a significant extent. One of the airport’s two parallel runway will be out of service for much needed resurfacing work that limits the amount of movements possible during the period. Emirates Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori says the airline will ground mainly Airbus A330s and A340s as well as some Boeing 777s, but not A380s.
