He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
FRANKFURT — CityJet's future owner Intro has concrete fleet replacement plans for the Irish regional airline, even though the takeover has not yet been completed. Intro Managing Director Peter Oncken tells Aviation Week that CityJet will replace its fleet of Avro RJ85s with Embraer 190s. That process is to be completed by 2016.
FRANKFURT — Lufthansa’s supervisory board plans to select a new CEO for the group at its next regular board meeting in mid-March at the very latest, but it is still unclear whether it will pick an internal or external candidate.
The second Airbus A350 prototype to fly, MSN003, just wrapped up cold-weather tests in Iqaluit/Canada after having undergone hot-weather trials and high-altitude performance testing. MSN003 is expected to participate in the flying display at next month’s Singapore Air Show and will also be on static display for several days, marking its first on the ground appearance at an airshow. MSN001 flew over the Paris Air Show a week after its maiden flight in June 2013.
