— At approximately 1426 CDT, a Bell 206-L4 (N863H) was substantially damaged upon impact with terrain near Moundridge, Kan. The helicopter departed Searle Field Airport, Ogallala, Neb., at 1204 and was en route to an undetermined destination. A nearby resident heard the helicopter’s engine “rev to a high rpm” twice, followed by two to three “thump” or “whump” sounds. There are no reported eyewitnesses to the accident. The helicopter crashed in a wheat field in a rural area. The wreckage path was over 100 yards in length along an approximate heading of 120 degrees.
— At about 1526 MDT, a Learjet 55, Canadian registry C-GCIL, was substantially damaged during an aborted takeoff at Natrona County International Airport (CPR), Casper, Wyo. The airplane was registered to and operated by Sunwest Aviation Ltd., Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was VFR and an IFR flight plan had been filed for the cross-country flight to Lafayette, La.
