Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air parent Alaska Air Group reported record third-quarter net income of $122.4 million, up 39.7% from $87.6 million in the year-ago quarter. Chairman and CEO Bill Ayer said this quarter’s results represented the “best adjusted quarterly profit in our history” and were driven by “increased traffic, stable yields and good cost management through improved productivity and lower overhead.”

Hawaiian Holdings, parent of Hawaiian Airlines, reported its tenth consecutive quarterly profit, posting earnings of $30.5 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, down 0.7% compared to earnings of $30.7 million in the year-ago period. The company noted that 2010 third-quarter results were boosted by a lower tax rate and related accrued interest that raised income by $7.1 million. In the year-ago period, the company had an income tax benefit of $13.7 million.
