Israeli manufacturers are ramping up development of small, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) powered by electric motors and, in at least one case, a hydrogen fuel cell. The UAVs are for tactical use and feature advanced payloads and data links, and cover a range of altitudes.

A two-man sniper team can keep hundreds of enemy soldiers taking cover until they retreat or are overrun or neutralized by air strikes. Improving a sniper’s accuracy over long distances would increase lethality. High-tech systems are being developed that virtually automate the targeting process and raise the probability of a one-shot kill at long range—3,600 ft. or more.

Saudi Arabia has finalized a $60-billion arms deal with the U.S. that is by far the largest in the region and one that will substantially increase the kingdom’s airborne defense and internal security capabilities.
