Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil has become the first company to announce it will stop using Airbus’ H225/EC225 for its offshore operations, even if regulators clear the aircraft.
Boeing said late Dec. 6 it has struck a deal to buy Liquid Robotics, which makes autonomous maritime systems and is the developer of the Sharc Wave Glider ocean surface robot.
The company, which charters 20 helicopters on the Norwegian continental shelf alone, will ask operators to sole-source the Sikorsky S-92 for its heavy helicopter requirements over the H225, after unions said oil workers no longer had faith in the aircraft.
