Alaska Airlines will resume daily Portland, Ore.-Long Beach service March 12. All Nippon Airways will increase 4X-weekly Airbus A320 Tokyo Narita-Hangzhou service to daily Jan. 20. Emirates will launch a fourth daily Airbus A380 service March 25 to serve its 5X-daily Dubai-London Heathrow service. Air China launched 2X-weekly Chengdu-Kathmandu Airbus A319 service Jan. 5.
Turkish Technic received an extended and expanded Boeing 737NG wheel and tire services contract with Pegasus Airlines, through 2017. The deal covers aircraft with carbon brakes, in addition to those with steel brakes.
US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported that US airlines employed 389,444 workers in October, up 3% from October 2010. BTS said this is the 11 th consecutive increase in full-time equivalent employee levels for the scheduled passenger carriers from the same month of the previous year.
Carpatair (V3) announced it will open a new base in Chisinau (KIV), Moldova and will operate three direct flights from the location beginning March 26, in a partnership with Moldavian Airlines. The carrier said there are "ongoing talks" with Alitalia to codeshare on the three routes from KIV. V3 will launch 3X-weekly service from KIV to Venice Marco Polo, Rome Fiumicino and Milan Bergamo. It previously served Moldova to Italy via its hub in Timisoara.
Turkish Airlines (TK) will switch four daily Istanbul (IST) flights and one daily Antalya flight from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Vnukovo Airport (VKO) from March 25. TK will launch 3X-weekly Boeing 737-800 IST Ataturk–Novosibirsk (OVB) service March 14, making OVB TK’s eighth Russian destination.

Brussels Airlines (SN) plans to launch its “first own connection” to the US since its founding in 2002, following the demise of its predecessor Sabena in late 2001. The route, daily Brussels (BRU)-New York (JFK) will begin June 1. The route will be operated with Airbus A330-300 or A330-200 aircraft, equipped with new business and economy-class cabins. The carrier will announce more details on the new cabin soon, it said. The service will be run as a daily morning flight to JFK Terminal 1 and as an overnight service back to BRU.
