FLY Leasing Ltd. has acquired two Boeing 737-800s, one on lease to Air China and one on lease to Korean Air. It also sold one 777-200ER on lease to KLM and one 737-800 on lease to SpiceJet for a total of $139 million. Airbus has delivered its 7,000th aircraft, an A321, to US Airways. Airbus delivered its first aircraft in 1974—an A300B2 to Air France.
Dreieich-based Hahn Air (HR) has launched a new online booking portal, giving travel agents access to bookings on more than 250 HR partner airlines, access to all published fares, and the ability to book flights on more airlines. The system is powered by 2e Systems’ eeBook, party of its eeSkySuite of products. "Travel agents wanted a dynamic tool to book flights normally not available in their in-house solution for sale," HR VP- head of global account management Andreas Ochse said.
Unions representing employees at United Airlines (UA) and Continental Airlines (CO), subsidiaries of the merged United Continental Holdings, will move ahead this month with efforts aimed at creating single labor representative groups for mechanics and passenger service and reservation employees of the combined airlines.
Last year there were 507 aviation fatalities as a result of 28 fatal accidents, the Aviation Safety Network (ASN) said in a report released Dec. 27. According to ASN, 2011 was the second safest year by number of fatalities and the third safest year by number of accidents. Also, last year was the longest period without a fatal airliner accident in modern aviation history—81 days and counting as of Jan. 2. The number of fatalities for 2011 is lower than the 10-year average of 764 fatalities, ASN said.
