H+S Aviation, a BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul (ERO) company, has named Graham Evitt as Rolls-Royce M250 regional sales manager-Europe. Evitt joined H+S Aviation in 1990 after spending 16 years as an aircraft engineer with the British Royal Navy. Monarch Aircraft Engineering has appointed Lee Burgess as head of sales and capacity planning, responsible for the acquisition and development of new business. Lee joined Monarch in 1988 and joined the management team in 2006.
WheelTug and EL AL Israel Airlines (LY) on Monday announced a Letter of Intent (LOI) under which LY will “obtain a substantial part of the initial production of WheelTug Aircraft Drive Systems for Boeing 737NG aircraft for installation on their own aircraft subject to financial and operational feasibility checks and regulatory approvals.” LY is the launch customer for the system.
AirAsia Japan, the joint venture between AirAsia and All Nippon Airways (ANA), plans to add Airbus A330 services to longer haul destinations from 2013, according to The Business Times. ANA applied to Japan's Legal Affairs Bureau to establish its joint venture, low-cost carrier with AirAsia in late August ( ATW Daily News, Sept.1) In the application, ANA stated it expected to start operations from August 2012.
Asiana Airlines (OZ) will expand its long-haul routes and focus on becoming a world top 10 carrier by 2015, according to the South Korean carrier’s senior VP, strategic planning. Speaking in Seoul Nov. 4 at the Assn. of Asia Pacific Airlines annual meeting, Kim Ebae said its fleet would grow from 71 aircraft this year, to 83 in 2013 and 88 in 2015. ATKs would increase by 5% this year, 14% in 2013 and 25% in 2015, he said.
Embraer earned third-quarter net income of $1.9 million, significantly reduced from a $126.1 million net profit posted in the year-ago period. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer said the drop was "primarily as a result of deferred income taxes generated by the appreciation of the US dollar during the period."
LOT Polish Airlines’ (LO) first 787 delivery has again been postponed, according to LO CEO Marcin Pirog. "We have recently received new delivery dates. The first 787 will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2012 instead of April 2012,” Pirog told the Polish News Agency PAP last week ( ATW Daily News, Oct. 21). “The next two aircraft are to reach Poland within two months after the delivery of the first one,” PAP reported.

Air France operated what it claims is the lowest CO2 emissions flight between Toulouse and Paris on October 13 with an A321. By using a mix of conventional kerosene and bio-kerosene made from hydrogenated used vegetable oils, Air France flight AF6129 achieved a CO2 emission rate of 54g of CO2 per passenger-kilometer—half that usually emitted on a conventional flight. To achieve the feat, Air France optimized flight procedures and reduced the on-board weight.
Virgin Atlantic, New Zealand-based LanzaTech and Swedish Biofuels are developing a world-first low carbon aviation fuel with just half the carbon footprint of the standard fossil fuel alternative. The partnership with LanzaTech is a breakthrough in aviation fuel technology that will see waste gases from industrial steel production being captured, fermented and chemically converted using Swedish Biofuels technology for use as a jet fuel.
