Air Arabia on Friday will take delivery of its first new Airbus A320 out of an order for 44 A320 family aircraft announced in 2007, Air Arabia Group CEO Adel Ali confirmed to ATW on the sidelines of the AACO AGM is Cairo this week. The CFM56-5B-powered A320 will be deployed at its main base at Sharjah International and support "exciting" expansion foreseen in its winter schedule. A second A320 is scheduled for delivery in December and a further five will arrive in 2011. Deliveries continue through 2015.
JetBlue Airways reported a $59 million third-quarter profit compared to a $15 million profit in the third quarter of 2009, and said it is on course to report its "most profitable year ever."
Southwest Airlines reported third-quarter net income of $205 million, reversed from a net loss of $16 million in the year-ago period, crediting an "outstanding revenue performance" for the strong result.
Norwegian Air Shuttle reported third-quarter net income of NOK528 million ($89.8 million), up 40.9% over NOK374.8 million earned in the year-ago period.
United Airlines reported third-quarter net income of $387 million, reversed from a $57 million loss in the year-ago period, while affiliate Continental Airlines posted a third-quarter net profit of $354 million, reversed from an $18 million net deficit in the 2009 September quarter.

Skyworld Aviation placed one ex-Shuttle America Embraer 170 with Fuji Dream Airlines of Japan on behalf of Republic Airways Holdings. Lufthansa Technik said it took delivery of two SunExpress CFM56-7B engines at its Hamburg engine overhaul center, the first two powerplants it will overhaul as part of a 10-year Total Engine Support deal signed earlier this year covering the carrier's CFM56-7Bs powering its 737-800s.
Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair flew a combined 7.92 billion RPKs in September, up 15.2% from the year-ago month. Capacity rose 12.9% to 9.69 billion ASKs and load factor improved by 1.6 points to 81.8%. EasyJet transported 4.77 million passengers in September, up 8% from the year-ago month. Load factor rose 1.2 points to 89.3%.
