AlliedSignal Aerospace announced an engine retrofit program for the Falcon 50 trijet, and a spokesman said the engine manufacturer has received a "very strong response" from Falcon 50 operators and owners.
NATIONAL BUSINESS AVIATION ASSOCIATION is holding a sweepstakes for a Piper J-3 Cub in an effort to raise money for the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Dulles Center, which is some $110 million short of its necessary funding (BA, April 5/159). NBAA is suggesting a donation of $25 to enter the sweepstakes, with no limitations on number of entries. The association plans to accept entries up until the drawing during its Annual Meeting and Convention Oct. 12-14 in Atlanta, Ga.
ROLLS-ROYCE broke ground on a new $6 million training and development facility in Indianapolis. The 67,000-square-foot center was established jointly through Rolls-Royce and the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Workers of America Local 933. The center will provide training and educational opportunities for both salaried and hourly employees, Rolls-Royce said. The center will include 21 classrooms, four conference rooms, a 520-seat meeting room and smaller teaming rooms.
The Electronics and Ground Support Group of Heico Corp. acquired 40 percent of the stock of R.H. Phillips and Sons Engineers Ltd., along with the exclusive right to the Phillips 300 and 400 Continuous Jet Engine Air Starting Units. Financial terms were not disclosed. Heico, a manufacturer of aircraft ground support equipment based in Miami, Fla., also received an option to acquire the balance of Phillips stock.
Sikorsky, which acquired Connecticut-based Associated Aircraft Group this year with an eye on the fractional ownership market (BA, Feb. 8/61), last week unveiled Sikorsky Shares, a fractional ownership program for its "flagship" S-76 helicopter. AAG will operate and manage the new Sikorsky program, which initially will be marketed to customers in the Northeast U.S.

INNOTECH-EXECAIRE named Rob Brooks vice president of technical operations for the group. A 20-year veteran of the aviation maintenance business, Brooks had been director of maintenance at Execaire, Inc. Richard Zalac, a 16-year veteran of the industry, was named director of engineering, reporting to Brooks. Howard McEachern was named director of operations at the group's Montreal maintenance and aircraft interior refurbishing facilities. He previously worked at IMP Aerospace and Litton Systems Canada, specializing in contract administration and program management.
UNISON INDUSTRIES signed a multimillion-dollar agreement with Parker-Hannifin to manufacture electrical wiring harnesses for Parker Hannifin's fuel quantity indicating systems used in Airbus A340-500/600 aircraft over the next 20 years.

AMETEK strengthened its aerospace instrument line with the acquisition of Gulton-Statham Transducers, Inc., (GS), a producer of high-accuracy electronic pressure transmitters and transducers for the aerospace market, Ametek said. GS, formerly owned by Mark IV Industries of Amherst, N.Y., employs 250 at its manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa, Calif.
BELL Model 206L-4 helicopters (Docket No. 98-SW-66-AD; Amdt. 39-11196; AD 99-13-03]) - requires a reduction in the retirement lives of certain collective idler links and collective levers, and re-identifying certain collective idler links and collective levers. This amendment is prompted by the discovery of two types of collective idler links and collective levers - manufactured from different materials - that are identified with the same part numbers but should have substantially different retirement lives.
ENAER, the Chilean aerospace manufacturer, will supply lower wing-to-fuselage fairings to Dassault Aviation for installation on Falcon 2000/900 aircraft. The two companies signed an agreement covering the fairings in late May and officials of both companies signed a formal order agreement at this month's Paris Air Show.
The pilot of a Cessna 402A on approach to the Van Nuys, Calif. Airport made an emergency landing on a Los Angeles street Wednesday, narrowly avoiding a disaster when the plane struck two school buses.
ALAIN CONTANT was appointed manager of technical completions-Montreal for Aerospace Concepts, Inc. Based in Newport Beach, Calif., ACI is a business aviation consulting firm specializing in the acquisition and completion management of large corporate aircraft including Challengers, Gulfstreams, Global Expresses, Boeing Business Jets and A319 Corporate Jets. Contant began his career with Canadair in 1980. He came to ACI from Innotech Aviation Ltd. in Montreal where he was project administrator/coordinator for aircraft maintenance and refurbishments.
JOSEPH S. DURKO, JR. was named corporate controller at DRS Technologies, Inc. in Parsippany, N.J. He joined the company three years ago as director-finance at DRS corporate office.
THE INTEREST in fractional aircraft ownership programs is spreading to the helicopter market. Following up on its earlier purchase of Danbury, Conn.-based Associated Aircraft Group (BA, Feb. 8/61), Sikorsky announced a program last week to offer shares in its S-76 corporate helicopters. A dispute between Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) over slot provisions continues to stall FAA reauthorization legislation in the Senate, pushing back a vote on the bill at least until after the Fourth of July congressional recess, which ends July 12. This has raised talk of yet another short-term extension, possibly for one year, of FAA programs. Congress in May extended authorization of FAA programs through Aug. 6, the third such short-term extension (BA, May 17/229).
United Technologies named Ronald McKenna, a 30-year veteran of Sundstrand, as president of UTC's Hamilton Sundstrand division effective immediately. McKenna replaces Raymond Kurlak, 55, who announced his retirement.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Assistant Secretary Patrick Murphy is leaving government later this summer to join former Deputy Assistant Secretary Mark Gerchick in consultants' work, in Gerchick-Murphy Associates. Murphy, who has held his current post since 1988, started with the Civil Aeronautics Board in 1971. He received a medical discharge from the Army for combat injuries in 1969. Murphy has been a point man for DOT's airline competition guidelines and other issues.
MARK BOLE joined Fairchild Aerospace Corp., San Antonio, Texas, as vice president-sales and finance. He will arrange customer financing and manage the company's relationships with commercial and investment banks. He will report to Josef Laakso, vice president-global sales and finance, and president of Millennium Leasing Company. Bole has 15 years of financial management and airline expertise, having served as treasurer for ASA Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
TEAL GROUP, which released its annual 10-year business aircraft forecast this month (BA, June 14/271), predicted a $25.72 billion market for large "Class Four" business jets during the forecast period with Bombardier's Global Express and Gulfstream's G-V accounting for $15 billion of that total.Teal Group also predicted a drop in Raytheon's market share to an average of about 10.7 percent, but that was before Raytheon announced a $2 billion deal with Executive Jet that includes orders for 50 Hawker Horizons and options for 50 more. KENNETH GUSS was appointed president of Raytheon Aircraft Parts Inventory&Distribution (RAPID) Company. Guss previously president of Raytheon Aircraft Montek, which was divested in 1998. Earlier this year, Raytheon contracted with Ryder Integrated Logistics to provide inventory management and order fulfillment services in support of RAPID. Ryder Integrated will manage the operation from a warehouse near Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport. The warehouse is dedicated to the support of Raytheon Aircraft products.
CESSNA Models 206H and T206H airplanes (Docket No. 99-CE-23-AD; Amdt. 39-11197; AD 99-13-04) - requires inspecting the left and right wing aileron control bellcrank stop bolts and lock nuts for flush and tight contact with the surface of the threaded boss on each end of the yoke assemblies, and accomplishing follow-on and corrective actions, as applicable. This AD is the result of an inspection on one of the affected airplanes that showed that the aileron control bellcrank stop bolt had partially backed out of the threaded boss.
