Following the renewal of a component service deal with leading Indian airline Indigo last year, Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) continues to have success on the Indian subcontinent following two contracts this week in Pakistan.
The Franco-Dutch MRO provider was selected by Serene Air for tailored engine maintenance solutions for the airline's Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
This included quick turn work on three CFM56-7B engines, one of which was upgraded to a full shop visit after more significant defects were identified during the inspection.
Subsequently, Serene Air requested AFI KLM E&M to perform another quick turn on a CF6-80E1 for one of its A330s.
There was also an APU contract for AFI KLM E&M subsidiary Epcor from Air Sial. The young carrier signed up for a full-service contract for APUs powering its three A320s, including predictive maintenance via the Prognos for APUs platform.
Starting with possible APU failure modes, Prognos seeks to determine the combination of sensors that help predict them. These vary by both APU type and operating conditions, Epcor told Inside MRO last year, although common findings are bearing failure and carbon-seal failure.
Typical actions based on Prognos warnings are inspections or removals of either APUs or their components, with one of the main goals being the avoidance of the severe damage that can occur in the final minutes of an APU failure.
The contract will also be a welcome sign to EPCOR that pandemic disruption is easing. “COVID has had a significant impact on the flow of APUs coming to our shop,” Martijn de Vries, managing director of EPCOR, told Inside MRO in April 2021.
Although AFI KLM E&M has a presence in India via joint venture Max MRO Services, the latest contracts do not appear to connected to the Mumbai-based facility, which specializes in certain types of component maintenance.
