Line maintenance provider FEAM Maintenance Engineering expects the final furnishings of its expanded facility in Miami to be completed by June 2021 and operations will begin shortly after.
Once open, the 37,000 sq.ft hangar will be able to accommodate all narrowbody aircraft types and on a larger scale, the Boeing 767. Capabilities will include letter checks, interior upgrades, structural repairs and avionics modifications.
FEAM cites strong demand for line maintenance from low-cost regional and cargo carriers as influencing its decision to expand at the location close to Miami International Airport, where it operates line maintenance services on several Boeing and Airbus aircraft types.
Cargo flights have particularly grown at Miami Airport over the past year by an estimated 14%. The MRO provider sees it as a long-term prospect having signed a 40-year re-certification for the hangar.
The $2 million project was announced last year and will be its second for aircraft in the U.S, where it has expanded its operation in recent years. In January 2020, FEAM added a location in Cincinnati focusing on cargo aircraft for operators including DHL, Prime Air and Atlas Air.
The company says it is actively looking to recruit new roles and has job listings on its website for the Miami facility as well as its 28 line stations across the U.S. Specifically, FEAM is looking for A&P mechanics, airframe and powerplant mechanics and avionics technicians.
This year alone, it says it hired more than 100 airframe and power plant technician jobs in Miami and Cincinnati.
