1. New Software, Equipment Releases

Company: Evident

Product: Headquartered in Japan, Olympus subsidiary Evident provides a wide range of non-destructive testing (NDT) products for the aviation, aerospace and defense industries. These include phased-array, ultrasonic and bond-testing flaw detectors, which inspect large areas, metallic and composite structures, and composite and metal bonded structures, respectively. It also offers a series of remote visual inspection videoscopes for remote and limited-access areas such as jet engines and auxiliary power units. It recently released its 72DL PLUS advanced ultrasonic thickness gauge, a portable device for quick, precise measurements of ultra-thin materials such as multilayer paint, coatings and plastic. Evident products are paired with user-friendly software for ease of operation. The company opened a new office in Montreal focused on software design to accelerate development of its new unified and open software platform for NDT testing applications.

2. Advanced Non-Destructive Testing

Company: Eddyfi Technologies

Product: Eddyfi Technologies offers advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) products and services that it says result in permanent digital records of inspections with increased speed, repeatability and reliability. Its NDT offerings include phased-array ultrasonic testing, eddy current array equipment and other ultrasonic electromagnetic equipment, including instruments, sensors, software and robotic devices. They support aircraft components such as airframe, fuselage, wheels, landing gear, engines and composite or honeycomb structures. Eddyfi acquired NDT specialist Zetec in January, which expanded its MRO and manufacturing portfolio. The company reports increased interest in NDT of new types of assemblies such as parts created through additive manufacturing. Eddyfi says it continues to develop new, adapted inspection processes to meet changing demands.

3. Remote NDT Inspections

Company: IMITec

Product: Swiss technology specialist IMITec offers robotics-driven remote NDT inspections at customer facilities for AOG incidents. Its robots can be mounted on an aircraft and operated remotely by one of IMITec’s NDT engineers to check for damage, after which it issues electronic release-to-service documents. IMITec also provides NDT training for common testing methods in aviation—including eddy current, ultrasonic, radiographic, penetrant, magnetic particle and shearographic—as well as human factors training for NDT engineers. It can provide training at customer sites and has the ability to provide partial remote training on some theoretical and practical elements. IMITec’s research and development team also supports customers with NDT automation, digitalization and structural health monitoring for aircraft structures.

4. OEM Capabilities

Company: NDT Solutions

Product: U.S.-based NDT Solutions holds in-house capabilities to design, manufacture and assemble NDT products. These include ultrasonic and eddy current probes, collaborative robot inspection systems, an optical measurement device for inspection discontinuities in aerostructures, and an automated ultrasonic scanning system (AUSS). It has been licensed by Boeing as an authorized provider of AUSS products and spare parts. It incorporates ultrasonic, eddy current and bond testing inspection modalities, according to NDT Solutions, which it says enable multiple inspections for aircraft production, maintenance and sustainment programs. The company also offers customized services, including on-wing inspections, engineering and design, training and consulting.
