With airlines moving to smaller, leaner and more efficient fleets of narrowbodies to accommodate predicted reductions in passengers through 2023, AJW expects an increase in retirements and surplus parts for Airbus A310s, A330s, A340s and Boeing 747s, 767s and 777s, says AJW Technique CEO Sajedah Rustom. While some of these aircraft will be converted to cargo duties, Rustom expects an upsurge in used serviceable materials.
“AJW has performed a deep-dive activity into all existing inventory strategically positioned globally to derive parts that can be offered at discounted prices, in line with market valuations,” the AJW exec says. The result of this exercise is a soon-to-be-released AJW Outlet Store, intended to minimize customer interaction and allow access to surplus stocks at heavily discounted prices.
Craig Skilton, head of regional customer accounts, says the discount outlet will open at the beginning of October. “We will be launching with predominantly Airbus and Boeing inventories, with some Embraer components.” The Airbus and Boeing coverage will include many active fleets, including Boeing 737 Classics, 737NGs, 747s, 757s, 767, 777s, Airbus A320s, A330s and A340.
The part selection is expected to be broad, listing rotable and repairable components across many ATA chapters. “Anything from a thrust reverser to a pilot seat to a coffee maker,” Skilton says.
AJW will launch the Outlet Store with more than 1,500 parts and look to add new inventory for customers each month. Skilton says AJW has created its own in-house pricing algorithm to calculate price offers, and the discount on many items will be in excess of 50%. “We measure the level of discount from what we consider the part to be worth, using our extensive price data history.”
The Outlet Store will be supported by a standalone website, on which customers will be able to browse the inventory, create an account and check out, thus offering an Amazon-style experience to buying aircraft parts.
To jump start the new site, AJW will offer customers an additional 10% off for first orders placed through the store and will ship orders for free too.
