Lufthansa Technik has signed an agreement with Safran Nacelles to join the licensed repair network for nacelles on Airbus A320neo’s Leap 1A engine.
An announcement of the new partnership was made at MRO Americas in Atlanta on April 19.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lufthansa Technik will now be able to carry out warranty tasks, repairs and modifications on behalf of Safran Nacelles, the specialist repair division of the French OEM.
In combination with its existing rotable asset pool of Leap 1A spare parts, the German MRO provider says it will be able to offer its customers spare availability from OEM stock locations and MRO services.
The addition of Lufthansa Technik to the Leap 1A nacelles network follows Singapore-based ST Engineering joining the licensed network in February.
Safran estimates more than 2,500 nacelles are currently in service on A320neo aircraft powered by the Leap 1A engine option, which entered service in 2016. The Leap 1A competes with Pratt & Whitney’s PW1000G as the powerplant on the A320neo.
Lufthansa Technik signed a similar licensing agreement with Collins Aerospace, the OEM for the PW1000G engine nacelles, back in 2020.
