A4A And Aviation Week Present 2020 MRO Awards

Three MRO luminaries received awards at Aviation Week Network's virtual MRO Transatlantic event on Oct. 28.

Airlines For America (A4A) presented its annual Nuts and Bolts Award to John Beavers, recently retired American Airlines vice president of Engineering, Quality and Training, and David Pappy, Airbus A320 program manager.Award winners

Beavers’ 45-year career spanned a range of engineering roles at Trans World Airlines, where he started as a senior engineer, and American Airlines. Before becoming VP of engineering, he served as American’s managing director of powerplant, APU and component engineering. In addition to his vast aircraft knowledge, Beavers “dedicated much of his career to bringing the next generation of professionals into the industry, with an eye toward increasing diversity,” A4A notes.

Pappy, who was engineering fleet manager at United Airlines from 1990 to 2008, joined Airbus as a customer support director before becoming head of programs support in 2019. In presenting the Nuts and Bolts Award, A4A cited Pappy for “leveraging extensive airline experience to provide a uniquely effective voice of the customer within Airbus, leading to fleet reliability gains.”

Aviation Week presented its Lifetime Achievement Award in MRO to Sarah MacLeod, executive director of the Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA). She has been instrumental in shaping the MRO industry—including founding the Aeronautical Repair Station Association and serving on countless FAA Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committees to represent repair stations. In presenting the award, Aviation Week noted that MacLeod has been “one of the chief advocates for Part 145 repair stations—and [is] recognized as an expert on regulations—and interpreting rules.”
