As the New Horizons spacecraft nears its July 14 closest approach to Pluto, the images sent back by NASA’s Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) are detailed enough to see different features on the dwarf planet, and they’ll be getting better. By the July 14 closest approach, “a portion of this region will be imaged at about 500 times better resolution than we see today,” says Jeff Moore, the Geology, Geophysics and Imaging team leader at NASA’s Ames Research Center.
