The shortlists for the prestigious Routes Asia 2018 Marketing Awards have been revealed, with 22 airports and destinations recognised for their exceptional marketing services.

Following the announcement that World Routes 2019 will take place in Adelaide, Australia, hosted by South Australian Tourism Commission, Tourism Australia and Adelaide Airport, Routesonline takes a closer look at its aviation sector.
The capital city of South Australia has been named as the host of the World Routes forum in 2019. Hosting the event gives the city the opportunity to not only boost air connectivity, but to show thousands of delegates what they have to offer potential visitors.
The link will be operated using a 180-seat Airbus A320 and is being launched to meet growing demand for holidays to the region. It marks the carrier’s return to a market it previously served between March 2006 and July 2008, according to schedules data from OAG.
Now a fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia, Tigerair Australia has recently undergone a major transformation – even ‘changing its stripes’ – in a bid to enhance its customer service and market fit.
The new Adelaide route will be flown using Qatar Airways’ new Airbus A350-900 and will boost its Australian capacity to 28 flights a week. The airline’s Gulf rival, Emirates Airline already serves Adelaide from Dubai International Airport with flights since November 2012; now operating daily using a Boeing 777-300ER.
The new route brings choice and competition to the town after Alice Springs was left without a second carrier when the low-cost airline, Tigerair pulled out in July last year. It also brings additional international connection options through Darwin and the operations of Virgin Australia’s partner carrier SilkAir via Singapore’s Changi International Airport.
The carrier will end its flights on January 25, 2015 as difficult trading conditions between Malaysia and Australia and particularly price competition from Malaysia Airlines over the last year have made it unprofitable.
The airline will operate the route from March next year and has linked it with the announcement of the new Darwin – Alice Springs route which was announced last month.
