Alaska Airlines and American Airlines expand their partnership, paving the way for new international routes from Seattle including the first nonstop service to connect to Bengaluru, India.
This week: IndiGo to launch the only India - Vietnam route; Delta Air Lines plans to resume service between Bogota and New York; and Ethiopian Airlines adds a third destination in India.
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport continues to grow rapidly, with new routes to London, Singapore and Bangkok launched over the past 12 months. Raveen Pinto, the airport’s vice president of business development, spoke Routesonline about the expansion of its network, which geographical locations it is targeting and the overall picture of India’s aviation industry.
Fifteen of the top 20 fastest-growing major airports in the world by passenger numbers are located in Asia, new research by Routesonline has found, with the main gateway to Cambodia’s bustling capital city taking the top spot.
Airports in China and India accounted for ten of the top 20 fastest-growing major airports in the world during the first-half of the year, highlighting the growing dominance of the countries as aviation powerhouses. Research by Routesonline has also ranked the leading airports by total passengers added during the period, with the US featuring strongly.
Under its revised schedule, Oman Air will introduce second daily rotations between Muscat and Bangalore and Kochi; will boost weekly frequencies between Muscat and Lucknow from seven to eleven; will increase flights between Muscat and Jaipur to ten weekly from the current daily offering; and will add one additional weekly flight on the Muscat – Goa route to offer a daily schedule.
Currently, the airline operates a Boeing 787 on the route with 254 seats, though from August 1, 2015, Qatar Airways with replace the 787 with a 777, bringing the total capacity to 335 seats.
