The US Department of Transportation has approved plans by Delta Air Lines and LATAM Airlines Group to codeshare on US-Chile routes, while at the same the two carriers have formally requested antitrust immunity for their long-awaited joint venture.
Ecuador’s president has revealed that loss-making national carrier TAME is to be liquidated, but essential routes that do not have a private sector operator will continue.
LATAM Airlines is resurrecting the former LAN Peru link between Cartagena and Lima from January 2017, initially operating with four weekly frequencies using Airbus A320 equipment. This marks a significant growth in capacity versus when it was flown under the LAN Airlines guise between April 2009 and June 2011 when there were just two weekly rotations using a smaller A319 airliner.
The carrier, an affiliate of the LATAM Airlines Group, plans to introduce a daily non-stop link between its base at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport and Orlando International Airport from June 20, 2015, subject to government approval.
