Virgin Australia’s new seasonal flights to Launceston, Wizz Air adding connections from Hungary and Romania and Saudia returning to Manchester are among the latest new route announcements and services resuming.
Two new short-haul routes will start from Zurich and three from Geneva this summer, but the airline does not expect demand to pick-up until the third quarter of the year.
TAP Air Portugal is resuming flights to North America later this week, with New York the first destination to make its way back onto the airline’s schedule. Three new routes will also be added to its schedule from July 1.
Madeira Airport in Portugal hopes to exceed the 2.5 million passenger per annum milestone this year after reaching a record high of 2.46 million passengers in 2014. The growth in demand has been supported by an increase in connectivity to the Portuguese archipelago.
The new route, flown using an Airbus A330-300, will be operate within the carrier’s joint business on transatlantic traffic with fellow oneworld alliance partners British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines and American’s merger partner US Airways. Chicago is a hub for US major American Airlines and will allow travellers codeshare connections to destinations throughout the United States.
