The new flights will offer improved connectivity between Malta and the western part of Sicily. Palermo is Sicily’s largest city, a historic melting pot of Western and Arabic cultures and as a developing tourist destination, is becoming a gateway to explore the region, renowned for its rich culture, architecture and gastronomy.
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the “unified global organisation” that unites the cruise industry, has revealed that global cruise travel is continuing to grow and evolve at a record pace. Demand for cruising has increased 68 percent in the last ten years and the industry as a whole supports a total economic impact of $119.9 billion.
Ryanair will launch flights from the city from November 1, 2016 with a twice daily link to the Spanish capital, Madrid, a daily service to Brussels Charleroi and London Stansted, a four times weekly link to Berlin and twice weekly flights to Fez, Malta and Warsaw Modlin.
Irish budget carrier, Ryanair is to significantly grow its activities from Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle airports in the UK next year, introducing a total of ten new routes from the three facilities as part of an expanded offering from the summer schedule.
The airline will introduce a twice weekly connection between Budapest and Bologna from June 5, 2015 and a twice weekly link between Budapest and Glasgow from June 13, 2015. The latter service has been partly driven by recent surveys in which Hungarian consumers listed Scotland on top of their wish list for future routes from the carrier.
All three markets have previously been served by Finnair with flights to Athens and Malta last operating in summer 2010 and services to Dublin last being flown in summer 2007. The flights will operate through the summer months only but strong performance could result in them being extended to year-round services in the future.
The three new routes will boost the Jet2.com offering by over 35,000 seats at Leeds Bradford to around 1.3 million for summer 2015 and will grow its network to 48 destinations.
With this expansion Wizz Air will grow its Polish fleet to 16 Airbus A320 aircraft in the summer peak of 2014: five based aircraft in Gdansk and Katowice, four in Warsaw Chopin Airport and one aircraft in Poznan and Wroclaw.
