A new direct flight from Frankfurt to Quito in Ecuador, the host city for Routes Americas 2018, is being launched by German leisure carrier Condor. The service follows successful meetings at this year’s World Routes in Barcelona.
Ecuador is growing in stature as a major emerging regional tourism destination in South America. And the future for Quito is looking bright, with over $87 million in hotel investment announced over the next 10 years.
US major, American Airlines is to grow its network into Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America later this year, further strengthening its position in these key regions. Alongside the new routes, American will also reinstate its link between New York's John F. Kennedy Airport and Simon Bolívar International Airport in Caracas, Venezuela, a service that was ended as the Venezuelan government withheld funds from airline ticket sales.
Ecuador certainly has a lot to offer and has a growing inbound appeal as the new Quito International Airport, the largest gateway into the country, makes the destination more accessible to international arrivals without the operational restrictions that had affected its downtown predecessor.

At this year’s World Routes, the South American country of Ecuador was a great example of how airlines, airports and tourism authorities are working together to strengthen their exposure and promotion in international markets.
There are currently no direct services between Ecuador and Fort Lauderdale, although American Airlines and LanEcuador offer flights to Miami from Quito. According to MIDT data, an estimated 422,000 bi-directional O&D passengers travelled between Ecuador and Florida in 2013.
