Ecuador’s president has revealed that loss-making national carrier TAME is to be liquidated, but essential routes that do not have a private sector operator will continue.
At this year’s World Routes, the South American country of Ecuador was a great example of how airlines, airports and tourism authorities are working together to strengthen their exposure and promotion in international markets.
There are currently no direct services between Ecuador and Fort Lauderdale, although American Airlines and LanEcuador offer flights to Miami from Quito. According to MIDT data, an estimated 422,000 bi-directional O&D passengers travelled between Ecuador and Florida in 2013.
