Air India has implemented self-service baggage drop and check-in technology at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).
Air India passengers “are now able to enjoy a seamless digital process to print boarding passes and baggage tags and drop bags on their own, obviating the need to check-in over the counters,” the carrier says in a statement.
The airline notes it is the first Indian carrier to offer self-service baggage drop and check-in at DEL.
“The [self-service kiosks] also allow travelers to easily customize their trips by selecting available preferred seats, updating frequent flier number,” and other benefits, says Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s chief customer experience and ground handling officer.
“This facility eliminates the queue waiting time for check-in over the counters and helps travelers to nearly breeze through the airport.”
Currently, the airline’s DEL self-service kiosks are available for domestic flights and international flights bound for Australia.
Dogra says Air India plans “to extend this for flights to more countries around the world” and also “introduce it at other airports in India, as well as at major airports in other parts of the world.”
