Avianca has opened service between Medellin, Colombia’s second-largest city, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Colombian flag-carrier is flying 4X-weekly between Medellin’s José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) and San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). The exclusive route, with a flight time of around 2 hr. 45 min., will be operated with an Airbus A320 configured to carry 180 passengers.
Avianca says in a statement that it will be offering more than 1,400 weekly seats on the MDE-SJU route. “This demonstrates the airline's commitment to providing more travel opportunities for customers in Puerto Rico,” the carrier says.
Aristides Luna, Avianca's sales manager for North America, adds: “With the inauguration of our direct flight between San Juan and Medellin, we are committed to enhancing Puerto Rico's international connectivity and offering passengers a direct and convenient option to reach one of Colombia's most attractive destinations.”
The new route “responds to the increasing demand from passengers who want to travel from Puerto Rico to Colombia,” Avianca says.
The carrier already operates 10X-weekly flights between Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport and SJU.
