Colombia’s largest airline, Avianca, is expanding at a fast pace after two of the country’s other carriers—Viva and Ultra Air—ceased operations this year.
Copa Holdings’ Colombian subsidiary Wingo has added some domestic flights, but the company has no plans soon to grow the airline’s presence significantly.
Avianca wants to operate a nonstop route linking Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport with Orlando International Airport during winter 2023-24.
Avianca said Aerocivil’s conditions for approving the proposed merger would “make Viva’s recovery impossible and could even affect Avianca’s stability.”
