MOSCOW—Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport will temporarily close Terminal D from Apr. 1, after the Russian government decided to halt all international scheduled and charter flights from midnight Mar. 27.
All domestic flights handled at Terminal D will be transferred to Terminal B.
Possible international flights, which Aeroflot will operate to repatriate stranded nationals, will be handled at Terminal F. Previously, Aeroflot transferred to Terminal F all scheduled flights from the countries with the most severe COVID-19 outbreaks, such as China, Iran and Italy and South Korea. The airport added that Terminal F provides threefold health monitoring for arriving passengers.
Terminal F, previously known as Terminal 3, was opened in 2009. Aeroflot had initiated its construction to ease connections between domestic and international flights, which were spread over different areas of the airport. Aeroflot handled at Terminal D most of its international flights; its SkyTeam partners also worked at the same terminal.
Sheremetyevo, the biggest airport in Russia, handled 49.3 million passengers in 2019, up 8.9% year-over-year.
