Stockholm Arlanda Airport has secured a new non-stop route to Delhi, to be flown three times per week with a Dreamliner B787-800 from 15 August 2017.
The new route is in response to growing demand between the two destinations, with a 50 per cent growth in passenger volumes between Sweden and India in the past three years.
Long-haul destinations such as Delhi form a core part of Stockholm Arlanda’s strategy, as outlined to Routesonline earlier this year by Elizabeth Axtelius, director aviation business, and Carl Andersson, senior manager business development.
It also follows the recent launch of services to Miami and Eilat.
Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Aranda’s parent company Swedavia, said: “We are pleased that Air India has now chosen to set up operations in Stockholm and is also a clear confirmation of our strong growth.
“Sweden has the largest market in Scandinavia, and demand is increasing for non-stop services to India, especially among business travellers. The new route will also make it more convenient for the growing number of Indian visitors to fly to Stockholm.”
Karin Wanngård, Mayor of Stockholm, added: “Stockholm has been working hard for this direct service to Delhi. We see great profits for the tourism industry and the whole of Stockholm's business community. I am very pleased with today's announcement.”
