He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Kuwait-based low-fare carrier Jazeera Airways returned to profitability in the third quarter after having started a turn-around plan and integrated Sahaab Aircraft Leasing. The group made a net profit of KD4.4 million on KD14 million in sales. The airline carried 365,000 passengers in the period, reaching a 70% load factor. Its share of the Kuwait market was 40%, Jazeera claims. The airline was struggling financially earlier this year and decided to cut almost half of its previous fleet of 11 Airbus A320s.
Frankfurt airport operator Fraport raised the profit guidance for 2010 based on substantial traffic growth in the third quarter. The company expects its pre-tax earnings to reach €700 million ($994 million) in fiscal 2010. Previously, the company expected up to €680 million.
European Interior ministers agreed to set up a working group that is to come up with proposals for better air cargo security by December. The ministers also said during a meeting on Monday that they want to harmonize security standards within the European Union and do more to find suspicious cargo while not going for 100% checked freight. Germany was unsuccessful so far in its efforts to push through a blacklist of unsafe airports that require additional checks.
