He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
British Airways was yesterday hit with $547 million in combined fines from British and U.K. authorities to settle a long-running price-fixing investigation, although the total so far is lower than the airline had anticipated. Korean Air Lines was also fined by the U.S. for similar violations.
Gulf Air appointed Bjoern Naef acting CEO until a permanent successor for Andre Dose is found. Dose stepped down on Monday following a meeting with Gulf Air Chairman Mahmood Kooheji and alleged internal disputes over the ongoing company restructuring (DAILY, July 25).
MTU Aero Engines received EUR30 million (US$41 million) as compensation from Airbus for the delay in the A380's production ramp-up. The figure was revealed yesterday as part of the company's earnings release for the first half of the year. MTU's net profit increased by EUR10 million to EUR61 million (US$83.65 million) on EUR1.27 billion (US$1.74 billion) in sales. MTU expects a full-year net profit of EUR150 million (US$205.7 million). -JF
