Jessica is Executive Editor of Business & Commercial Aviation magazine. She started as Editor of ShowNews Online, Aviation Week's on-site trade show daily published at the Paris Air Show, NBAA Annual Convention, Singapore Air Show and at other significant aerospace gatherings.
Jessica has worked in television production and management consulting. While not yet a licensed pilot, Ms. Salerno has received flight instruction and has soloed.
Transmitter frequency stability regulation, commonly called the “.005” rule, has been withheld from the body of ITU rules just recently put into force by the FCC. Designed to protect air-ground communications from wider band use by transmitters meeting only the present “.01” frequency stability limit, this rule has been vigorously opposed by the AOPA. Objections centered on unnecessary re-equipment of aircraft with new closer tolerance transmitters, which would be required on many light aircraft.
The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) has recognized three individuals and one company for their contributions to the airport industry with awards presented at the association's 84th Annual Conference and Exposition in Phoenix. Bob Bogan, deputy executive director of Morristown Municipal Airport (N.J.), and Jim Rice, director of Michigan's Bishop International Airport, received the 2012 and 2013 Distinguished Services Awards, respectively. The Chair's Award was presented to Jim Elwood, director of Colorado's Aspen/Pitkin Country Airport.
American Jet International, Houston, announced that Annette Vitello is the new director of operations, responsible for flight department operations, including management and control of business development. Aviation Partners Inc., Seattle, promoted Gary Dunn to vice president of sales and marketing. In addition to the sales and marketing activities for API's Blended Winglets products for business aircraft, Dunn's duties will include the sales of large winglet retrofits to corporate and head-of-state buyers of Boeing 737, 757 and 767 aircraft.
