March 30 — About 1730 Alaska Daylight Time, a ski-equipped Piper PA-18 airplane (N7276D) sustained substantial damage when it collided with trees and snow-covered terrain following a loss of control while landing, about 26 mi. south of Sleetmute, Alaska. The airplane was flying VFR with no flight plan when the accident occurred. The uncertificated pilot and the one passenger died in the crash. The flight originated at Sleetmute Airport at an unknown time.
ATP, Brisbane, Calif., announced that Ted Haugner has joined the company as director of Sales, reporting to Rich Marino, president of ATP. He will oversee all aspects of ATP's extensive sales and customer service channels. Jeppesen, a unit of Boeing Flight Services, recently recognized five leading ground handling companies with a “Jeppesen Handler of the Year” award to recognize customer service excellence. The 2011 winners are: Air Consult — Europe and Russia region, based in Rome. Manny Aviation Services (MAS) — Canada, Latin America, Australia and the Pacific region. This year, MAS celebrates 15 years of service. Jet Aviation Dubai — Africa, Middle East and India region.
