The ALG Series CO2 pumps include a thermal insulator between the drive and liquid sections, cooling jackets around the barrel and cooling passages in the endcaps. These features eliminate the need for feed pumps and sub-coolers used in conjunction with traditional liquid pumps to maintain proper temperature in liquefied CO2 applications. Haskel International Inc., 100 East Graham Place, Burbank, Calif. 91502.

An astronomy satellite designed to uncover clues about the Big Bang that gave birth to the universe 12 billion years ago is being readied at Cape Canaveral for launch next week. The NASA-backed Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) project is to study light in the far-ultraviolet portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (around 90-120 nanometers) with unprecedented sensitivity and resolving power. Launch of the 3,000 lb. (1,360 kg.) satellite is scheduled for launch June 23 on a Delta II booster.
The Model 4437-P2 is a single-slot multi-mode digital modulator for the ISA bus. Four different modulation schemes are supported and can be used individually, or in concert with one another to produce a more complex composite signal. Modulation data may be input from an external source, such as a PCM simulator or Command Generator or from an on-board pseudo random data generator that can provide continuous PN data stream for bit error rate testing. SBS Technologies Inc., 5791 Van Allen Way, Carlsbad, Calif. 92008.

NASA's Deep Space 1 spacecraft (see photo) is a testbed for ion propulsion, autonomous navigation and other technologies including artificial intelligence. The ``Remote Agent'' AI experiment was created by the Ames Research Laboratory and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and was successfully completed last month. ``This technology will allow us to pursue Solar System exploration missions that only a few years ago would have been considered too elaborate, too costly or too dependent on teams of Earth-bound controllers,'' said Doug Bernard, Remote Agent manager at JPL.
The mass storage unit MSU-4HPC is a high-speed, random-access, mass storage and retrieval system designed for use in military and industrial computer applications. It houses up to four removable high-profile HPVC-Series cartridges. The MSU enclosure contains a power supply, line filter and internal cooling. It is mounted to a shock isolation system. Miltope Corp., 500 Richardson Rd. South, Hope Hull, Ala. 36043.

The FanBlast Nozzle was created to help coating removal facilities increase speed and control selective stripping. It is effective on composites and metals, and the nozzle doubles production rates on coatings such as epoxy primer and polyurethane top coats. Round nozzles project a higher volume of media in the blast stream center, causing more impact on the surface area center and less on the edges. The nozzles are designed for lower aggression media such as starch and plastic media and can use the same media flow rates and air pressures as conventional nozzles.
Lockheed Martin has announced it will make at least $1.075 billion less than expected over the next two years. Company officials attribute the drop--$555 million in 1999 and $520 million in 2000--to delays in the C-130J program, space launch failures and late delivery of commercial satellites. The new estimate followed the latest in a series of regular financial reassessments.
Tramos cleaners and degreasers are not soap, detergent or solvent. They remove oils, grease, carbon, uncured paints, resins and other difficult materials without attacking the substrate. The cleaners are non-toxic, non-flammable, contain no phosphates, acids or silicones. They are non-butyl and biodegradable. The use of carbon chains makes this cleaning agent biodegradable. The chemical reactions that take place when using this product completely disintegrate these linear carbon chains. Bergdahl Associates Inc., 2990 Sutro St., Reno, Nev. 89512-1616.
