At EU airports, the average passenger traffic growth was +6.3 per cent (+6.3 per cent also for Q3), while passenger traffic at Non-EU airports reported growth of +5.8 per cent (+6.4 per cent for Q3). Meanwhile, freight traffic at Europe’s airports was essentially flat in September at +0.2 per cent (+0.5 per cent for Q3). Finally, aircraft movements increased by +3.3 per cent (+2.9 per cent for Q3).
Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has announced Gothenburg in Sweden as its 74th base from September, where it will base a single aircraft to launch additional frequencies to London Stansted.
The route switch follows agreements earlier this year for SAS to dispose of two of its slot pairs at the heavily constrained Heathrow Airport for a combined positive earnings impact of $82 million. The first slot pair was sold to an unidentified carrier for $60 million, while the second was sold to Star Alliance partner, Turkish Airlines for $22 million.
UK multinational pharmaceutical and biologics company AstraZeneca is understood to have reached an agreement with Danish carrier Sun-Air for the airline to introduce two rotations per day, four days per week between Cambridge and Gothenburg from the end of March this year.
